As you may be aware there has been a lot of hype in the courts surrounding the legality of online gambling in South Africa. Due to the recent ruling in the Pretoria High Court, we have been closely monitoring all these events.
With respect, we do not agree with the recent judgement and believe that the judgement has correctly been appealed. As it happens, leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Appeal was granted on Friday 3rd September 2010. This means that the judge who granted the original judgement is of the view that another judge may come to a different conclusion.
You will have noticed that we recently suspended activity at Indio Casino whilst we awaited the outcome of the application for leave for appeal. Irrespective of the fact that this leave for appeal was granted, we have decided to permanently suspend all casino activities at Indio Casino until the highest court in South Africa makes a final decision regarding the legality of online gambling in South Africa for South African players.
In addition to all casino activities being suspended, this means that we no longer accept registrations and wagers from players with South African IP addresses.
